Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball was unable to complete another second-half comeback on Saturday, falling at home to Onondaga Community College.
Two days after the Spartans rallied from a 15-point deficit to beat Genesee Community College, Cayuga fell behind in the second half and lost 85-80 to Onondaga. The loss leaves Cayuga 3-12 on the season.
Cayuga opened the game strong behind a 13-0 run highlighted by steals and layups by Jadeir Breedlove and a three-pointer by Josiah Murphy. The Spartans led by 15 at one point, but the Lazers eliminated the deficit and took a brief lead before Cayuga's Marcus Pasha made a layup in the closing seconds of the first half to give the Spartans a 34-33 lead at the break.
The Lazers came out fast in the second half and led for much of the frame. Cayuga tied the game several times in the closing minutes, once on a pair of Murphy free throws and again on a layup by Murphy, but never reclaimed the lead.
Pasha led Cayuga with 21 points and tied for a team-high eight rebounds. Murphy had 14 points and eight rebounds, Kirk McFarlane had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Jai Clayton had 15 points.
Cayuga is home again Wednesday, Jan. 28, against Tompkins Cortland Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
