Spartans Earn First Win
Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball picked up their first win of the season over the weekend with a strong performance against Corning Community College.
The Spartans led at halftime and sank key free throws down the stretch to earn the 72-68 home win over the Red Barons on Saturday. Cayuga is now 1-2 on the season and 1-1 in Region III and Mid-State Athletic Conference play.
The teams played a competitive first half, with the Spartans scoring the final six points of the frame to lead 40-33 at the break. Cayuga held the lead early in the second half, but the Red Barons came back to take a three-point advantage with a little over 10 minutes remaining.
The game stayed close the rest of regulation, with Cayuga breaking a 55-55 tie with seven straight points, including a clutch three-pointer from Jai Clayton. Corning cut the lead back to 67-65 on a three-pointer, but several defensive stops by the Spartans and Jadeir Breedlove's four free throws in the last 90 seconds secured the first win for Cayuga.
