Spartans Men's Basketball Ready for New Season

With talented newcomers and experience in key positions, Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball is ready to take a step forward in the 2025-26 season.

The Spartans are looking to build on a 2024-25 season that saw them finish 6-18 and lose to Hudson Valley Community College in the opening round of the Region III playoffs. They open the season at home with a non-regional contest against Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse on Sunday, Nov. 2.

Coach Tony Borges said the Spartans' depth and defensive effort should pay off throughout the season.

"I like this roster a lot. They work hard in practice, challenge each other and push themselves to improve each day," said Borges. "They take pride in competing, which really shows up on the defensive end and is important in how we want to play each game."

Cayuga returns guards Omari Anderson, Kade Manna and Amaree Samuel from the 2024-25 team, along with guard/forward Codie Patrick. Incoming sophomores include Omar Musa, Jai Clayton, and Yagub Drammeh, along with freshmen Kirk McFarlane, Jadeir Breedlove, Awayle Muse, Josiah Murphy, Ahmad Hicks Jr. and Louie Charles.

"We've got good guards that I'm excited about, some transfer players who've been battle-tested, and some true freshmen that will make an impact," said Borges. "I love our depth, and that everyone has bought-in to our approach defensively."

The Spartans will once again face a challenging Region III slate. The schedule includes road trips to defending national champion Mohawk Valley Community College and perennial power Herkimer College, plus home-and-away series against several strong teams, including Genesee Community College and Tompkins Cortland Community College.

The opening game on Nov. 2 against Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse at Spartan Hall is scheduled for 1 p.m. After that, the Spartans host SUNY Broome (Nov. 5) and Corning Community College (Nov. 8) before a Nov. 12 away game at Finger Lakes Community College starts a four-game road slate.
